Basic Concepts
Overview
MCL-Net v4 is the server that enables wireless (Ethernet, Wifi and/or WWAN (GPRS/UMTS/4G/5G)) and wired communications (USB - Windows Mobile Device Center) for concurrent users and ensures a secure data exchange between host systems and mobile devices.
Below are the key concepts to take into account when working with/managing MCL-Net v4:
Server
A server is an entity that represents the application resident on a back end host server (to which the device will send and receive business data).
Device
Is the physical device, regardless of manufacturer, model or operating system, where applications run.
Licenses
When you purchase an MCL product, you require the corresponding license. Once the license is registered and active, it enables the use of the MCL product.
There are two types of licenses:
1. Subscription
Is a specific license that is subscription based. It is active during a specific time period, includes several services and products and is linked to MCL-Mobility Platform (where you will manage your subscriptions). The services/products included in a subscription can be extended with the use of add-ons.
This license type implies the use of an MCL-Net Agent service to handle communications between MCL-Net v4's instance and your MCL-Mobility Platform 1.4 account.
2. License
Is a perpetual license, meaning, it only requires a one time activation and does not have a renewal/expiration date. You will register/manage your MCL-Net v4 license(s) in an MCL-License Manager account.
The services/products included in a license (ex: available license units) can be extended with the use of add-ons.
MCL-Mobility Platform
Is a cloud-based platform operating on SaaS (Software as a Service) that allows you to manage subscriptions, devices, servers, operators, etc.
MCL-License Manager
Is a cloud-based platform that manages your product's perpetual licenses (MCL-Client, MCL-Net and MCL-Designer). It provides information regarding your registered licenses.
MCL-Net Agent Service
Is a service responsible for the communication between the installed MCL-Net v4 instance and MCL-Mobility Platform 1.4.
Through this service, MCL-Net is able to provide status information about its instance to your MCL-Mobility Platform 1.4 account.
