How to Install/Activate MCL-Net v4

Overview

The installation of MCL-Net v4 includes the activation of the corresponding license.

Depending on the purchased license type, you will register it in your MCL-Mobility Platform account (specifically, in a site included in your account) OR  in your MCL-License Manager account.

There are two license types:

Subscription

This license is subscription based. It is active during a specific time period, includes several services and products and is linked to MCL-Mobility Platform.

An MCL subscription implies the use of a specific service to check its validity:

The MCL-License Renewal Service v4 is used for MCL-Mobility Platform 1.3 accounts. It does NOT apply to MCL-Mobility Platform 1.4.

This Windows service CAN be installed at the same time as the MCL-Net v4 installation - the MCL-Net installation wizard provides the option to install this service (see MCL-Net v4 Installation/Activation (Subscription) - To Connect to an MCL-Mobility Platform 1.3 Account) OR  be managed as a separate service, meaning, installed in a different PC. See MCL-License Renewal Service v4.

The MCL-Net Agent Service is ONLY compatible with MCL-Mobility Platform 1.4 accounts. It does NOT apply to MCL-Mobility Platform 1.3.

This Windows service HAS to be installed during the MCL-Net v4 installation (this service's installation is part of the wizard handling MCL-Net's installation).

See MCL-Net v4 Installation/Activation (Subscription) - To Connect to an MCL-Mobility Platform 1.4 Account.

License

The license is a perpetual license, meaning, it only requires a one time activation and does not have a renewal/expiration date. You will register/manage your MCL-Net v4 license(s) in an MCL-License Manager account.

If, for some reason, you cancel your MCL-Net v4 license, you have a period of ten (10) days to reactivate it. Beyond that 10 days period, the license will be permanently blocked.

The installation of the MCL-License Renewal Service v4 is NOT required.

MCL-Net v4 Installation Architecture (Subscription)

An MCL-Net v4 Subscription ALWAYS requires the use of a subscription maintenance service.

There are 2 services available but you must install the subscription maintenance service that is compatible with the MCL-Mobility Platform version that will be connected to your MCL-Net installation:

"MCL-Net Agent Service" - ONLY applicable to MCL-Net v4 subscriptions intended to communicate with MCL-Mobility Platform v1.4 accounts.

"MCL-License Renewal Service v4" - ONLY applies if your MCL-Net subscription is going to connect to an MCL-Mobility Platform v1.3 account.

When defining the architecture for your MCL-Net v4 Subscription installation, consider the following points:

If "MCL-Net Agent Service" is the compatible service for your case, it MUST be installed/running in the same server/PC as your MCL-Net installation (Architecture Option A).

MCL-Net Agent Service is essential for the maintenance of a Subscription type license. It ensures the periodical validity checks of your subscription's token as well as the communication of status information between MCL-Net v4 and MCL-Mobility Platform 1.4.

If the compatible subscription maintenance service for your MCL-Net installation is "MCL-License Renewal Service v4", you have 2 possibilities:

You can install it in the same server/PC as the one with MCL-Net. This implies that both the service and the product are installed/activated at the same time, meaning, within the same installation wizard (Architecture Option A);

OR

You can install it in a different server/PC from the one you have installed MCL-Net in (Architecture Option B).

Architecture Option A (Service + Product installed in the same Server)

Compatible Architecture between MCL-Net v4 and

MCL-Mobility Platform 1.4

Compatible Architecture between MCL-Net v4 and

MCL-Mobility Platform 1.3

The service ("MCL-Net Agent Service") and the product (MCL-Net v4) are installed in the same server/PC.

MCL-Net v4 communicates with an MCL-Mobility Platform v4 account via the "MCL-Net Agent Service".

This service MUST be installed at the same time as the MCL-Net v4 subscription installation (the MCL-Net installation wizard includes a step for the "MCL-Net Agent Service" installation).

The service ("MCL-License Renewal Service") and the product (MCL-Net v4) are installed in the same server/PC.

MCL-Net v4 communicates with an MCL-Mobility Platform v4 account via the "MCL-License Renewal Service.

For this architecture type, install this service at the same time as the MCL-Net v4 subscription installation (the MCL-Net installation wizard includes a step for the "MCL-License Renewal Service v4" installation).

Architecture Option B (1 Server for the Service and 1 Server for the Product)

Compatible Architecture between MCL-Net v4 and

MCL-Mobility Platform 1.3

The product (MCL-Net v4) is installed in one server/PC and the service ("MCL-License Renewal Service v4") is installed in another.

For this architecture type, the service is downloaded/installed on its own, so you can define a different installation location.

When executing the MCL-Net installation wizard, do NOT install the "MCL-License Renewal Service v4" (uncheck the option that relates to the service's installation). Perform an autonomous service installation. See To Install the "MCL-License Renewal Service"

This architecture option (B) DOES NOT APPLY to the use of the "MCL-Net Agent Service"/an MCL-Mobility Platform 1.4 account.

If you intend to connect your MCL-Net v4 subscription to an MCL-Mobility Platform 1.3 account, you can decide which architecture best suits your operational needs/management (architecture option A or B) - it is entirely up to you.

Internet access to ensure contact with both cloud based platforms (MCL-Mobility Platform and/or MCL-License Manager).

When dealing with Subscription type licenses, you must ensure a continuous internet connection (to run "MCL-License Renewal Service v4"/"MCL-Net Agent Service").

In the case of perpetual Licenses, Internet access is only required at the moment of license registration (in your MCL-License Manager account).

To Install/Activate MCL-Net v4

Installing MCL-Net v4 and activating the corresponding license (Subscription or License) requires performing certain steps in the application itself and in your MCL-Mobility Platform's account (Subscription) or your MCL-License Manager account (License):

Start by downloading MCL-Net v4's installer file (ex.: MCL_Net_XXXXPXX.exe) from one of our websites:

MCL-Mobility Platform (if you have an MCL-Mobility Platform account)

MCL-Collection v4 (if you have licensed MCL product with a perpetual license)

Then, run the installer file and follow the instructions in the MCL-Net Setup wizard.
