Overview

Only an account administrator or a site manager can create a platform user and define/edit the settings for that user, meaning, his username, contact email, language, authentication method, etc. However, when it comes to defining a password, ONLY a user can set up his own password.

Once a user is created within the account (at account level, by the account administrator and, at site level, by the site's site manager), an email is sent to the new platform user (to the email address that was entered in his profile) so he can define his own password. The platform user will only be able to log in after the password is set up/validated. See Initial Password Setup.

The email provides a temporary link (with a visible expiration date/time) that the user must follow to set up the password. If the password is not defined before the link expires, the platform user must wait for the account administrator/site manager to send another email with a new link. See Expired Link for Password Setup.

The account administrator/site manager is not able to view/retrieve a platform user's password but he can check the password's current status (ex: check if the user has already set up his password and when or if the password has been deactivated/is waiting to be reset).

If required (ex: for security reasons), the account administrator/site manager can request a platform user to change his password. This will deactivate the user's current password and force him to set up a new one. See Forced Password Reset.

The platform user can also reset his own password, whenever necessary (ex: if he cannot remember the password). See User Triggered Password Reset.
